Changhua City 彰化市

Following the directions we got at Lugang Tourist Information Centre, we made our way by bus 彰化客運 to the city of Changhua 彰化. With the help of fellow passengers and the bus captain, we alighted a short walk from our destination - Baguashan 八卦山. Feeling hungry, we decided to grab some food before our ascent.

Near the foot of Baguashan, along Tong Min Road 東民路, we found a nondescript eatery that serves up delicious noodles and tofu pudding. The middle-aged boss told us his shop was a pitstop in one of Taiwan's once popular gameshow - 食字路口. We had 餛飩面,肉挫面加蛋,三色布丁豆花, all for just NT165. Both the eatery and the boss are called <福泉>.

Asking the boss for the best meatballs 肉圓 (a popular snack in Changhua) in the city, he told us it's just a few shops away from his! But sadly, they were already sold out and closed for the day. It was just 2:30pm. Guess we'll have to try our luck elsewhere later today.

Energised after lunch, we took a leisurely walk up the gentle slope leading to Baguashan, where the 86-ft tall Buddha statue sits overlooking the city of Changhua. I love this hillside park for its serenity and vastness. There was a street hawker selling an assortment of eggs (from quail to ostrich), and a couple of buskers serenading mandarin pop against the backdrop of a beautiful setting sun.

guess who's watching the sunset too
